8:45 am

Vice Dean Sara Lamb and her team of students, residents, and fellows begin making rounds.

10:00 am

Lamb stands outside a patient’s room to debrief on next steps in the patient’s care and discuss a plan for the day.

Noon

One of many “teachable moments” throughout the day. “The best way to explain a concept,” says Lamb, “is in the moment.”

1:00 pm

A new patient is admitted to the hospital through the ER. On average, Lamb and her team see about 16 patients every day.

1:30 pm

Lamb wraps up an initial evaluation with a new patient and develops a plan for care with the team.

3:00 pm

“Joy,” says Lamb, “in another day of work.” She can’t pinpoint the exact moment of this image, but she suspects it’s capturing a moment when she realizes a plan has been well executed and patients and their families are happy. This kind of interaction is one of many reasons Sara Lamb does this work.
